Online Gambling and Risk Factors

Online Gambling involves playing games of chance or skill using the internet to place wagers. There are many different forms of online gambling, including online casinos, sports betting, poker, and fantasy sports. It is estimated to be a $9.5 billion per year industry, and it is growing rapidly. But online gambling is not without risk, and it can lead to financial problems and even addiction. A recent study found that online gaming may increase the risk of developing an anxiety disorder. It also increases the risk of depression and increased stress. It can also cause people to become isolated from friends and family as they spend more time online.

Gambling on the Internet is a fast-growing activity, and many jurisdictions have legalized it. However, many people are not aware of the risks involved with gambling online and how it can impact their lives. Some people gamble online because they are attracted to the thrill of winning. Others gamble because it provides an escape from everyday life and can provide a sense of relaxation.

To investigate knowledge about the relationship between online gambling and various risk factors, a systematic literature search was conducted in three different databases: PubMed, PsychInfo, and Scopus. The search was limited to peer-reviewed studies in English. The syntax was (ab(online gambling)) AND (risk factor, protective factor, predictor, correlate). The literature search was restricted to articles published in the decade 2010-2020. This was done in order to focus on the current state of knowledge about a phenomenon that is spreading at an extraordinary speed.
