Poker is a card game that involves betting between players and a showdown at the end of the hand. The player with the best five card poker hand wins. While poker involves a significant amount of luck, there are a number of ways to improve your chances of winning. These include playing tight, bluffing when necessary, and taking advantage of other player’s mistakes.<\/p>\n
Each player begins the game by purchasing a certain number of chips. Typically a white chip is worth the minimum ante or bet; a red chip is worth 10 or more whites; and a blue chip is worth two, four or five reds. After purchasing your chips, you sit down at the table and wait for your turn. When it’s your turn to act, you can say “call” or “raise” to place additional money into the pot. You can also fold your cards into the dealer’s face if you don’t want to play that hand.<\/p>\n
The dealer then deals each player two cards face up from a standard deck of 52 cards (although some games use multiple packs or add wild cards such as one-eyed jacks). Each player must make a five card poker hand using both the cards in his hands and the community cards on the table.<\/p>\n
The cards are arranged in descending order from high to low: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4 and 3. Each player must place a bet equal to the lowest bet in front of him. Players can raise their bets only if they believe that the hand they have will beat the other players’ hands.
