Poker is a game of chance where players compete for the highest possible hand. Each hand is comprised of five cards, and the player with the best hand wins the pot. The rules vary depending on the type of game you play.<\/p>\n
The dealer starts by shuffling the cards. He or she then gives them out to the players one at a time. They may be dealt face up, or down. If the cards are dealt face up, the player to the left of the dealer has the right to make the first bet.<\/p>\n
Once the cards are shown to all the players, they evaluate the hands. The players can discard a single card, or they can keep all five. They can also call or pass.<\/p>\n
If a player is betting, he or she must match the bet of the other players. After all the players have made their bets, the bets are grouped into a central pot. The winning hand is revealed in a showdown.<\/p>\n
The pot can be won in any of three ways. The player with the highest hand wins, or if there is a tie, the highest straight or five-card hand wins.<\/p>\n
The game can be played with any number of players. The ideal number is usually six to eight. If more than one player remains, a second round of betting will take place.<\/p>\n
