Originally played in North America, poker is now played around the world. It is also the most popular card game in the United States, and is played in casinos, private homes, and poker clubs.<\/p>\n
In poker, each hand has five cards. They are ranked according to their suit, with Aces, Kings, Queens, and Jacks being the highest. If two of the same rank are in play, the high card breaks ties.<\/p>\n
The aim of the hand is to have the highest ranked hand of cards. When a player’s hand beats the other hands, it wins the pot. Players then continue betting until all other players have folded.<\/p>\n
When betting is over, the hand of the player who holds the highest card wins the pot. This is called a showdown.<\/p>\n
A player can also check or fold his hand. If he thinks that he is beat, he can fold. However, if he is sure that he has the best hand, he can call. The player who calls is called the caller.<\/p>\n
The first bet is made by the player who is to the left of the big blind. The player who is to the left of the big bet is called the first dealer. After the first bet, the turn passes to the left of the big blind.<\/p>\n
